"Wondrous Creatures" are actually not for sale - I am selected as one of the finalists for the "Art Award of the City of Weilburg" and "Wondrous Creatures" are the paintings that are selected by the jury. They will be shown in the upcoming finalists exhibition in September 2018.

The “Wondrous Creatures” series was inspired by some of my paintings that are on pure linen with a transparent ground. I wanted to create something similar on raw canvas (because of its natural creamy beige colour) and with a limited colour scheme.

So all four pieces are abstracts with a limited soft tones colour palette. The background is an important part of the painting and partly free from colour.

The title came up during the painting process, as I discovered creatures (or figures) in each of the paintings - their sub titles are "Butterfly", "Man with Hat", "Looking back" and "Reclining Figure".

On a larger wall you can hang them in a square or they will look great side by side (maybe above a sideboard or table) - some examples are shown in the additional pics.

Painted on self-stretched canvas. The canvas is primed with a transparent ground. Mixed media paintings: ink, acrylic, marker and charcoal. Signed and dated on the back.

Varnished with a matt varnish (Lascaux with UV Protection). They are ready to hang with a white floating frame (without glass).

Each painting is 50 x 50 cm (19 x 19 in), with frame 54 x 54 cm (21 x 21 in).

Abstract, Powerful, Gestural - three words to describe my art! Each of my artworks is truly unique and only one of its kind. MY ARTIST STATEMENT "An abstract painting challenges the artist even more, because it’s an act of creation on the artist's own terms." MY INSPIRATION I find my inspirations in colours and materials - for example in a beautiful deep turquoise mountain lake or in the washed-out grey of concrete in a city. Based on such impressions and inspirations I commence my work and my artwork often comes to life in little series. Each painting is unique and the creation and development of each painting can be a time consuming process, usually lasting many days or weeks and in some cases up to a few months. MY TECHNIQUES I appreciate the manual work of building, stretching and priming my own frames. I really get engrossed in this, it’s the first encounter with a new work and a good start for the creative process; me and the canvas did get familiar with each other. My paintings are acrylic mix paintings, for example, acrylic paint with charcoal, oil pastels, pencils, spray paint and many other artistic materials. Sometimes I combine these materials with collage materials. My pieces of art are created informally. Each step builds on the previous step, leaving room for chance but also for corrections and erasures, until the final finished artwork has evolved as a composition of colour, shape, texture and surface. Each piece of art is truly unique and only one of its kind!
