About The Artwork

Yippee Yi-Oh, Yippee Yi-Ay is inspired by recent trips to the desert mountains, casinos, and gold-rush ghost towns of Nevada and Arizona. The few natural springs dotted around Death Valley, California were a particular inspiration. These watering holes are where dusty desert folk and tourists congregate, where weather-worn shacks, RV parks and the odd motel and saloon bar have grown almost organically. A strange brew of eccentric and everyday characters converge to rest, refill their bodies and cars and purchase location-branded souvenirs before setting off into the scorched barren wilderness past the dry bones that litter the edges of the never ending highways. The title "Yippee Yi-Oh, Yippee Yi Ay" is from the song Ghost Riders in The Sky by Johnny Cash.
