'and Death' Painting

ONLY PRINTS AVAILABLE. This piece is one half of the 'Life and Death' series. They were based on digital collages I made. Inspiration was drawn from the theme of mortality which is very present in many artist works throughout history. I was looking into Roman mythology, in this series Venus - the goddess of love and fertility is featured. Venus had the ability to give life which means she potentially had the ability to not give life. I also looked into Vanitas and Memento Mori which are genres of art, the artwork were still life paintings that included symbolic objects that reminded the viewer of mortality and the shortness and fragility of life. The intention of this work was to take these elements that symbolise mortality and insert them into more contemporary styles of work.
