Inspired by my Renkum, Netherlands painting residency this scene is the view from Nieuweweg 31 looking north-west (I have a terrible sense of direction) towards the house of Simon the bookbinder, my neighbor. It was the "Year of Mondrian" (2017) and I was seeing his work all around, mostly in posters for the event but also covering large buildings in a decorative manner. Anyway, when I started work on this piece Mondrian was on my mind and perhaps that is why it resulted looking very "Mondrian-like."
