granica V (borderV) Painting

This work comes from the series "granica" (border) which is based on rural landscapes. While painting I observe the transition from fields to the clouds, from the earth to the vast sky, from single strings of grass to the smooth areas of green. I am fascinated by the division lines between these realms and try to capture them in my paintings. It seems to me, that the contact points are the most intense places in the whole landscape. That the division determines and emphasizes the features of both the sky and the earth as they exist only in relation to one another The second meaning of the title are personal borders, which I find to be the very places where we discover and get to know ourselves. We may see them as sharp or diffuse, we may pretend not to see them at all. At times we may even feel there are no borders between us and the world, as we are the world. This very piece was created on early, foggy evening in march. The field was coated with yellowish, dried out grass and red thicket peeking from the fog. The sky responded with amazingly colored clouds.
