rain of thought Painting

At the time I did this painting I was interested in creating texture with thick paint stokes. The paint got on smoothly on the wood`s surface (it is an old and very dry woodblock) and it was a nice feeling using other instruments other than brush to work with. So I started making textures with a sharp stick to make it seem like it`s raining and with my fingers to contour the shapes of the face. The inner sadness of the character is visible on the outside and it is completed by the dark background. I wanted to depict that feeling when you had a hard day that is finally over and when the time to go home arrives rain starts, leaving one to feel desolated and alone facing the emptiness of the world. The red clouds and the rain pouring on the characters` head are vibrated to emphasize the feeling of helplessness and desolation. The character gets so depressed he does not even bother to cover his head, he just covers a part of his face, overwhelmed by the hardships of life.
