United Kingdom
Living on the Isle of Skye for the last few years, I have been interested to discover a plethora of photographic works and representations of the scenic beauty and topography that surrounds us, or artists expressing our natural surroundings in watercolour, oils or mixed media. I thought that I would combine my fascination with symmetry and design in nature by the symbiotic textures and mixed media of the photographic image transposed to canvas onto which I would paint stark contrasting or blended acrylic colours to define and occasionally shock the observer into looking more closely at our "natural state". In some of my pieces I will include debris or bones and decaying matter which I find in our environment, not just pick out the uncluttered perception of beauty that the viewer may wish to see represented. I wish to show the co existence of the dark and light state that makes up our nature and humanity. I picked up my first Kodak Instamatic camera at the age of 11 years old, and attended the first year of an HNC photography course at Wolverhampton college in 1999, under the tuition of Simon Larson MA (ARPS).I became interested in painting some years earlier before, being married to the artist John Myatt, and decided to combine my love of the two genres in 2010, when I started to paint on my photographic images, allowing me to draw out organic shapes and add a vibrancy of textures and colours to the pieces.
