About The Artwork
From photos taken at the Vatican Museum. I was struck by the philosophers portrayed in the painting by Raphael and the crowd of viewers: they seemed to speak to each other, though there is a contrast in their dress and technology. It was a challenge to paint that was very satisfying. It was first in a series of paintings of viewers in museums.
