Word collection paintings I began painting using words pulled out of a bag (words collected from a dictionary that I didn’t know initially) onto canvas fairly large, then evolved to painting very small on 90 x 140mm sized miniature canvas’ as I ran out of canvas I used cardboard and calico. More recently I’ve worked at a modest size, informed by the size of the largest book I have, the Phaidon Art Museum. With these paintings I pick a word out of my collection – these are words I’ve chosen as resonant to me – and I paint something of what that word feels to me. Some of these paintings were made on my weeks residency in the artists shop in Hereford in 2019. The painted surface is matt in appearance and is painted right around the edge of the stretcher. Hanging cord is attached at the back with cord - ready for your wall!
