Escaping the Pas de Deux (Greendale Avenue), Edition 1/10 Painting

The work is inspired by the artist’s German poem Greendale Avenue whose German and English text is found at http://www.ottolaske.com/documents/German-Complete.pdf. While the poem traces the origin of his wife’s (Peg Brightman) choreographies to the vicissitudes in her personal life, the image simply presents the image of a modern dancer freed from pas de deux and musical beat. The work’s colored strokes are centered around a female dancer thrusting her arms beyond herself into space. The colored strokes together convey the force with which modern dance historically pushed ‘aside’ traditional constraints of movement when dancers began to move to their own inner music (occasionally also moving beyond their marriages). The work is printed on Hot Press Fine Art Smooth Bright White paper (an acid free, 100% cotton rag media with a bright textured finish, yielding an extremely high color gamut and black density). It is signed and numbered by the artist, accompanied by a CoA, and shipped without hanging hardware, in a very sturdy tube protected against folding and puncture.
