About The Artwork

Late in the evening, a walk on the beach of the North Sea in northwest Jutland, Denmark. During that walk I'm trying to make abstract photos with an old analog camera. Then I see a kite surfer on the sea, and while following him with my camera, I make this photo... 'An evening at the beach' is a photo in the series 'Dreams land on distant shores', part of the gallery 'Eternal sea'. This photo is available in various sizes, in centimeters or in inches. Please let me -or the Saatchi Art staff- know your wishes and I'll upload it in the desired size. =o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o= I moved to Denmark in July 2018. As a result of (tax) legislation in Denmark, I have adjusted the maximum number of Limited Edition prints for all photos from 46 to 28. =o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o= Digital image, scanned from the original film. Limited edition custom made fine art inktjet / giclee print, printed on museum quality Hahnemühle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth 305 g/m2. The photos are for sale in a limited edition art print of 28 prints in total. For every photograph I sell a maximum of 4 signed and numbered prints per size 'group' within the total of 28 prints. The 7 size 'groups': 20x20 - 20x30 cm / 8x8 - 8x12 inch 30x30 - 30x45 cm / 12x12 - 12x18 inch 40x40 - 40x60 cm / 16x16 - 16x24 inch 50x50 - 50x75 cm / 20x20 - 20x30 inch 60x60 - 60x90 cm / 24x24 - 24x36 inch 80x80 - 80x120 cm / 32x32 - 32x48 inch 100x100 - 100x150 cm / 40x40 - 40x60 inch All limited edition prints are signed, numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Many sizes available up to 150 H x 225 W cm / ~ 60 H x 90 W inch. Other sizes then mentioned above, always within the total of 28 limited edition prints. Other materials (baryta paper, canvas, aluminum-dibond, acrylic glass plate) and other sizes on request. Production time is 7-10 working days. Delivery: All prints are protected by tissue paper, rolled on a heavy card board tube, wrapped with special strong packaging paper and placed into a heavy cardboard box with specially designed spacers. Please contact me -or the Saatchi Art staff- to let me know the size and material you wish, so I can upload the artwork in that size and material. Special requests, such as a white, black or colored border around the photo or if you prefer the photo without a border, can of course be honored. Make your wishes known to the Saatchi Art staff -or to me through a mail/message- and I upload the custom photo.

With my artworks, I hope to tease and stimulate more than just your sight. I want you to sense what I sensed when I made the artwork; the light, the temperature, the atmosphere... sometimes even the scent of a damp autumn forest and the cold of the whirling salty breath of a storm on the beach of the North Sea. In this way I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on what we will lose if we continue on the path of 'never enough'. My main inspiration is the vulnerability of nature. I see changes in nature. I see the effects of urbanization, the pressure of pollution and of the changes in the climate. I hope to make people aware of that vulnerability by sharing what I feel when I look around me. My work is often described by others as abstract, minimalistic and impressionistic. My style is distinct and pure, and is characterized by soft colors, soft focus and the effects created by how I move my camera during making the photo. I like experimenting and exploring the limits of what the camera can handle. I myself often describe my style as abstract realistic and impressionistic. I mostly work in nature where I immerse myself in the shapes, colors, sounds and stillness of the natural surroundings. My work can be described as the most pure form of fine art photography, since I choose to create the abstract and impressionist effects as seen in my photographs, using only the basic camera settings. Photo software is used only to remove dust or to adjust brightness, contrast and cropping to improve my compositions. I don't manipulate my photos and I don't use digital editing tools or filters. The titles of my photos are an important element of the entire work of art. In addition, I often write a short poem or a few lines of prose to a photo. Born in 1959 in the city of Gouda in The Netherlands, I now live with my wife and dog in a small farmhouse in the Danish Thy region in North West Jutland. In the summer of 2018 my wife and I moved from a larger city in The Netherlands to a small hamlet in the Thy region. We fell in love with this region about ten years ago... We live a simple, minimalistic life, as self sufficient and sustainable as possible, and we love it... My photography has been sold and exhibited in various countries all over the world.
