This photograph is part of a larger body of work titled 'Memoirs of Lost Time', a series of meticulously staged images accompanied by short stories inspired by the romantic notions of childhood memories and the almost dreamlike nature they possess. The stories are based on seven creative personalities’ childhood memories and recollections. The images are dramatic, romantic and surreal – illustrating a very dream-like and imaginative interpretation of these distant memories, a very blurred line between fact and fiction, which is perhaps how the memory works. They are not only a reflection of what was, but also of what could have been. This image was selected by Italian Vogue as part of their Best of PhotoVogue exhibition in Milan in 2012. This artwork (like all of my other artworks) is sold in 3 sizes - all limited editions of 8 each. 60cm x 50cm - $900 90cm x 74cm - $1400 110cm x 90cm - $1850 *sizes rounded off to the nearest centimetre.

Shortlisted by and showcased at the National Portrait Gallery, London, for the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize 2019 and Portrait of Britain 2018 and 2019 winner, Vikram Kushwah, was born in New Delhi, India. He is a fashion and art photographer based in England. Whether artistic or commercial, his pictures have a dream-like quality, in which the boundaries between fiction and reality are blurred. In addition to being inspired by his own childhood memories, as well as childhood stories such as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Vikram’s artistic influences include the photographers Guy Bourdin, Tim Walker and Deborah Turbeville, as well as the work of the Surrealists, the Romantics and the Pre-Raphaelites. Vikram strives to draw viewers into phantasmagorical worlds through his meticulously staged photographs. In 2008, Vikram arrived in London to undertake a post-graduate diploma in Photography at the London College of Communication, after which, in 2010, he completed his MA in Photography at the University for the Creative Arts in Rochester, England. He has since been practicing in Britain and India, working for reputed publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Elle and showing his work in galleries in the UK, Europe and the USA. His works form parts of private and corporate collections, spanning Europe, America, Australia, Middle-East and Asia. Vogue Italia featured him among their 'New Talents' and selected his work to be exhibited in their Milan exhibition, ‘Best of PhotoVogue’ in 2012. His work for Grey Singapore won a Cannes Young Lions Award (bronze) in 2013 for Best Photography for his Duracell batteries campaign. This year his 'Women in Bathing Suits' series has been shortlisted for the AOP awards. Vikram lives in his Oxfordshire country home with his wife and a menagerie of pets.
