About The Artwork

Reminiscent of bacteria running rampant in a petri dish, but on a much larger scale, this piece celebrates light, life and the multitude of variables within each species, place and thing. The flock of birds, visible in the bottom left of the image, reflect a sense of freedom and community as they traverse this scene of water vapour and light. Dramatic in tone, which reflects my personality, this piece was inspired by the contrasts, movement and shapes in the dreamlike paintings of English painter JMW Turner and the surreal paintings of Salvador Dali. While aware of shapes and light captured during the shoot, I often discover the soul of my work during the digital edit - when clouds and space become ethereal creatures guarding, playing or hunting in the skies. Location: Sky above the Collinbridge neighbourhood of Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland.

STIMULATION A sense of isolation mixed with an innate passion for intellectual stimulation through exposure to multi-platform creativity and new and engaging insights, drives me forward. LATE STARTER An experienced commercial and editorial photographer for four generations, I began my fine art photography practice relatively in 2015, when I submitted myself to the natural elements of Ireland, the country of my birth, and Georgia, USA, where I lived for 6 years – resulting in an immersive connection with place, as I engage with the primordial soul of the skyscapes I explore. MINIMALIST LEANINGS Inspired by the minimalist, yet detailed, writings of American author Cormac McCarthy, the surreal visual tableaus of painter Salvador Dali, I committed to make art in this vein after being exposed to the dreamlike skies of the English painter, JMW Turner, when I saw the Mike Leigh movie, Mr Turner. My work reflects an ideal world, where man and the elements engage as equals and where cloud-like spirits dance and play in celebration of life, beauty and existence itself. IN CONSTANT FLUX Visual texture, contrast, and drama in my work are metaphors for change, transformation, and growth. They also speak about the ever-changing process of life and how nothing is permanent. I capture celestial environments that have dynamic visual impact resulting in art that causes pause for thought. CELESTIAL ENVIRONMENTS Each celestial environment celebrates the bond we have with nature. Wild and natural, my work reflects the intimate and spiritual connections humans have with the clouds, sky and air. A JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY As I continue on this journey of discovery, I find myself drawn to the abstract, where shape, direction and tone take me to a simpler place, where imagination and instinct give life to new creative possibilities.
