Pyotr Lebedev and Maria Snigirevskaya, 2008 2/10 Silver Gelatin author's print. Handcrafted by Author in the Photographers Darkroom Quality Fibre Print Signed, dated. Signed with the edition number on the mount in pencil. PAPER: ILFORD The appeal of Venice is obvious. Surrounded by sea, pierced by canals, perfect architecture - all this attracts travelers and inspires artists, writers, musicians. Venice is betrothed to St. Petersburg by canals and great names: Diaghilev, Benois, Stravinsky, Pasternak, Brodsky. Joseph Brodsky wrote: "In many ways it is similar to my hometown, St. Petersburg. But the main thing is that Venice itself is so good that one can live there without feeling the need for another kind of love, the love of a woman. It is so beautiful that you realize: you are unable to find anything in your life, much less create anything yourself, that can compare to this beauty. Venice is unattainable...". The St. Petersburg photographers Peter Lebedev and Maria Snigirevskaya had such a task for themselves during their photo shoot in Venice in November 2010: to break away from stereotypes and not lose the commitment to pure beauty and harmony. The use of black and white film, vintage cameras, unique lenses and hand-printing gives the viewer a mood that helps him forget about the momentary and look at famous places freshly and in a new way, feel the special charm, flavor, mood, poetry and all-conquering beauty of Venice.
