About The Artwork
Photography: Pinhole, photo on paper, black and while, paper. Series of 5 pinhole photographs, fine art print. Making pinhole prints of snowy landscapes, black and white and negative is for us an obvious path. It's a sensational playground to explore what we have defined as non-negotiable in our artistic work. Working directly on our shots on silver photo paper required us to be more attentive to the light, to the different exposures present in the same point of view, to the differences in contrasts. We apprehended this constraint of the low sensitivity of paper as a new space, a challenge for creation ... We appreciate to work with exposure differences to create a free zone between the illegible and the commonly readable, to welcome the plasticity of over and under exposure, to create a reading challenge, a bit like our eye was mistaken for an astronaut playing with gravity while hopping on the moon, to enlarged an interior space to explore subtleties of gray between deep black and pristine white, to tip the image into an unexpected density that titillates our sensitive perception of things, to compose with a chosen palette in order to make an artistic proposal which operates this small side step in us which makes us see the familiar differently.

Caravan Obscura, is a project of artists who have chosen to live in rural environment. We are each in our own way sensitive to the perception of our environment, to the connections that unfold between our body and spaces in which we operate, in all shades, colors, palettes that these surveyed spaces offer us every day. Our environment is very present in our reality as in our artists imaginary. It is our living space but we also apprehend it as an extension of our workshop, where our reflections and achievements flourish. We try to observe and explore the daily life of this territory as if we are discovering it. To live in, it is to travel on the spot, losing our bearings, we observe the place with a fresh look. Our respective works present visual and perception phenomena which are part of a very specific light, a landscape, a particular nature. We are looking for flaws in the real that allow us to access an intermediate space, between the unknown and the hospitable. We have been experiencing pinhole shooting since 2017, in small and large format thanks to a caravan and food boxes transformed into camera obscura. Our work offers in its own way a way of questioning the border between the real and its representation, the real and its force of fictitious, imaginary, supernatural proposition ...
