Park Avenue is a 140-foot-wide, 10.9 mile long boulevard that carries north and southbound traffic in New York City starting at E32nd Street in the borough of Manhattan and running north into The Bronx where it ends at Fordham Plaza. As Park Avenue enters Midtown north of Grand Central Terminal, it is distinguished by many glass-box skyscrapers that serve as headquarters for corporations and investment banks. It runs parallel to Madison Avenue to the west and Lexington Avenue to the east as designed in the rectangular grid of the Commissioner’s Plan of 1811 where it was originally titled Fourth Avenue. A single car can be seen turning north from E53rd Street while a pedestrian is crossing the boulevard from the east end to the west end at E51st Street and the stark rays of light shining between the buildings along the east side add texture to the drama.] The Helmsley Building (230 Park Avenue, 35-story building built in 1929 as the New York Central Building, designed by Warren & Wetmore in the Beaux-Arts style) The MetLife Building (200 Park Avenue, 59-story skyscraper built in 1963 as The Pan Am Building, designed by Emery Roth & Sons, Pietro Belluschi and Walter Gropius in the International style, it remains one of the 100 tallest buildings in the United States) Canon EOS 5D Mark ii, f.13, 1/1000, 95mm on Canon EF 75-300mm f.4-5.6, ISO1600
