About The Artwork
Lamba print on metallic paper, mounted on Dibond,ready to be hanged. Each work in this series is composed of three different photographs taken by the artist at different times and places. The images are superimposed over one another, glued down and then torn so as to expose the underlying layers. Fragments of past experience, they nonetheless interact with the present so that, in the created reality of the image, everything appears to occur simultaneously. Just as our past experiences form the puzzle pieces which, combined, continue to shape the present, so in these works the signs of contemporary life are layered over one another to create a new existential alphabet. The resulting message, at times disquieting or even menacing, is echoed in the title of each piece.

Alessandro D’Andrea was born and raised in Rome. After completing his degree in modern languages and modern literature at the Università la Sapienza in Rome, he spent several years in Paris, where he took courses in philosophy at the Sorbonne. During those years he developed a passion for photography, and in the early ‘80’s he moved to London and studied photography at Paddington College. He then moved to Milan to begin his career as a fashion photographer, which eventually led him to New York City, where he lives. His photographs have appeared in a wide variety of respected international publications, including Elle, Amica, Self, Glamour, Arena, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, FHM, Tatler,Evening Standard and many others. His advertising clients have included DKNY, Gucci, Spiegel, Nieman Marcus, Adrienne Vittadini, Avon and Bloomingdale’s.
