About The Artwork

The image shows the Harold Washington Library, a cultural landmark in the city of Chicago. The library's facade with red walls pierced by wide arched windows and a roof richly decorated with acroteria is a striking feature that draws attention to its architectural design and symbolic meaning. Next to the library, a black traffic light stands as a reminder of the urban life that surrounds the library. The contrast between the red and black colors creates a visual tension that is balanced by the blue sky above. The sky represents the openness and possibility that the library offers to its visitors and patrons. The image captures a juxtaposition of culture and urban life in Chicago.

My name is Vladimir Marlinski and I am a neuroscientist. I have dedicated my life to studying how brain controls movement and how it senses our self-motion. I have a diverse academic background and experience in different countries and institutions. My bachelor's and master's degrees in biology I earned at Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. I completed my PhD and DSc in neuroscience at Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Later on, I had the opportunity to work as a researcher and teacher at Free University Berlin, University of Chicago, Arizona State University, and Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix Arizona. I have published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals, which can be found on Google Scholar under three different names: Marlinski V., Marlinskii V.V., and Marlinsky V.V. Many scientists find photography to be a useful and enjoyable complement to their exploration of various natural and urban phenomena. I am one of these amateur photographers. I have captured images of people, buildings where they live, worship and have fun, and artworks they have created. Most of these images are interesting in their own right. Some of them can be seen at https://www.instagram.com/v.marlinski. Furthermore, I have experimented with the color palette of the images using Adobe Photoshop tools. My aim was to create expressive, colorful and stimulating images that convey not only aesthetic appeal but also some rational meaning. Examples of such experiments are displayed now in Saatchi Art gallery. I have always enjoyed photography as a personal hobby, but the recent events in Ukraine have made me reconsider my role as an artist. I am deeply moved by the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people who are fighting for their sovereignty and dignity. I want to contribute to their cause by offering my artwork for sale. All the proceeds will go to humanitarian organizations that are helping the victims of the war in Ukraine.
