About The Artwork

The dance photography I am always being asked to shoot, of famous and less famous dancers, tends to involve one decisive moment where in theory everything comes together into a split second of perfection. The camera is of course uniquely positioned to capture such a split second and looking into this 'unseeable' fraction of a second is something the eye otherwise would never experience. The frozen moment. My perception of dance however and the feeling the audience experiences has often little to do with the above. Rather it has everything to do with the flow of the motion and the travels the figure goes through in order to 'create' the dance. This is something the still camera is uniquely bad at describing and capturing. Attempting to capture it though, creates some very wonderous and for me emotionally strong images. Indeed images that 'speak back to me' as I am rarely entirely able to predict the exact outcome. This giclee print is on Canson Baryta paper with a semi-matt finish. This is from an edition of 25 with 2 artist's proofs. The approx image size is 20"x16"(50.80cm x 40.64cm) and the paper size is 24"x20" (60.96cm x 50.80cm). All prints are numbered and labelled with the artist's signature, stamp and come with a certificate of authenticity. This work will be shipped rolled in a secure tube.

I have been a professional photographer for more than 20 years. My main interest during this time has been the conceptual and the artificial, mainly in the area of the portrait and the figurative, and I have often used this interest as a prime force in my more conventional portraits. My recent work concerns itself with movement and dance.
