Tokyo Streets Photograph - Limited Edition of 10

My name is Ties van Brussel. I was born in Sint-Oedenrode in 1984, and raised in the adjacent municipality of Son en Breugel, in the south of the Netherlands. From my early youth, anything that had visual impact intrigued me. In my early childhood, I spent so much time on gazing at imagery found in old comics, old MAD magazines, and was struck by the colours and composition of the compelling cinematographical wonder from filmmakers like Steven Spielberg and Paul Verhoeven. I enjoyed making my own comics, primarily in the gag-format. My productivity was hindered by an innate sense of constant impatience. Thankfully, my impatience diminished while photographing. In 2012, I started a PhD-fellowship, which allowed me to focus more on urban photography. In 2017, a visit to Japan totally stirred up my believes about having a true passion. After wandering around in Tokyo, night after night, I found that I had a profound hunger for capturing rural settings. These scenes, which explore the intercourse between colours and composition, were just there. Instead of having to paint or draw them, it now took me only one click to find the aesthetic that I was searching for. Since then, I never attenuated my obsessive love for the hunt for involuntary, unintended beauty in the backstreets and alleyways of Asian cities.
