An Edward Weston inspired moment from my series "Nada Brahma". The fine structures of leaves I captured for this series are so sensual to me, they remind me of the sensuality of body parts. So I photographed my body in the same way I had photographed the leaves. The result were these almost abstrac...

Contact us.Ingrid Hertfelder is a German artist, working at the intersection of photography and spatial perception, informed by a transdisciplinary background in music and the visual arts.
Her practice develops an expanded notion of landscape—not as a fixed geography, but as a perceptual and relational condition. Fragments, bodies, and surfaces become landscapes when shaped through processes of attention, perception, memory, and projection.
"Beyond the surface life begins" forms the conceptual axis of her work. The surface is not an endpoint, but a threshold: a site where interior and exterior, presence and withdrawal, visibility and opacity continuously negotiate.
Her images do not represent reality; they examine how it comes into being. Human existence appears not as separate from nature, but as entangled within its temporal and material conditions.
Music informs her visual language structurally rather than metaphorically. Rhythm, suspension, and resonance operate as compositional forces, shaping perception rather than illustrating content. Influenced by an ongoing engagement with contemplative philosophy, Hertfelder’s work articulates states of attention rather than narrative. Observation becomes a mode of thinking; stillness becomes an active structure.
After artistic studies in Munich, London, New York, Savannah, New Orleans, and Los Angeles, she lived and worked in the United States for eleven years before returning to Germany. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in public and private collections.
