About The Artwork

About this piece: Piece number 2 features variations of colours and compositions similar to those found in pieces number 1 and 3. While piece number 1 projects stillness and more sense of balance, elements found in number 2 have started moving. The squares, emulating a chessboard, are displayed in a more whimsical way on the upper half of the piece, as if they had been pulled or had fallen from the sky. Organic parallel lines of black and brown create a base for the ensemble in the lower half of the piece. Here, the thinner beige lines are displayed in a perpendicular way, as if they were to touch each other at any point. - Size: 61 x63 cm - Technique: Lithography, xylography and collage - Paper: Arakaji natural paper, base of Somerset 300g - Limited edition of: 28 About the collection: From the river bank The series From the river bank is the result of summer evenings by a watercourse, reflecting on life’s currents and events. This ensemble emanates from mental constructions around heraclitan well-known quotes such as “everything flows” and “no man steps in the same river twice.” From these ideas, images are depurated, geometry is created, contrasts emerge. It all gets translated over paper. Some elements in this series are organic, intuitive, like nature. Others are rational, sharp, calculated, persuasive. They invite viewers to imagine the abstraction of dams, bridges, canals, modern architecture: men taking over wilderness, getting lost and found, in motion, searching for strategies. What can escape from a labyrinth? And how? We attempt to control the circulation of waters, creating space within space. Essential questions are left, at the river bank: if this was a chess game, who wins? The answers are always for viewers to determine. The techniques used are lithography, xylography and collage. The materials: Arakaji natural papers, over the support of a 300g Somerset paper. Except for piece number 6: japan paper of 75g. From the river bank, consists of six pieces: - Numbers 1, 2 and 3 are variations of similar colours: yellow, red and green are the brightest highlights. Secondly, beige with hints of brown and black over an off-white surface. Their sizes are all 61 x 63 cm. Numbers 1 and 2 belong to a limited edition of 28 pieces, while 25 pieces were created from number 3. - Numbers 4 and 5, although sold individually, also work perfectly as a pair. Black, off white and beige stand out against a deep green background. Same size as pieces 1, 2 and 3: 61 x 63cm. And same as number 3, they are a part of a 24 piece limited edition. - Number 6 has a title of its own: “présance, la vallée” (Presence, the valley). Unlike the rest of the collection it is made over lighter, more ethereal support (japan paper of 75g) and its dimensions are: 62 x 85cm. Its limited edition is smaller: 12. Finally, its composition, with its thinner strokes and use of colour, are not present in the other pieces of this series.
