About The Artwork

The print is from a photograph taken of the movie while being broadcast on local TV. Many of the prints I make use this technique. Originally in color the photo translated into a halftone print in a way that retained the cinematic quality. Each print is handmade in my studio.

Bruce Edwards is an artist living and working in Cleveland, having moved there after graduating form Kent State University in the spring of 1991. He has maintained a studio along with his life partner Laila Voss ever since. He has shown widely in Cleveland and North East Ohio. Known primarily for his conceptual performance works in the late 20th century spanning into the early 21st. He adapted his practice to Printmaking in 2008 and has been a believer ever since. Edwards work is in many collections including the Progressive Collection, The Dalad Collection, and many private collections of print enthusiasts. Bruce has been a contributing voice in the Cleveland art scene having held positions at the Cleveland Institute of Art, the University of Akron, Cuyahoga Community Collage, and SPACES. He was a longtime board member and served as the President of the Board of Trustees from 2020-2023 for Zygote Press, a Non-Profit Print facility located in Cleveland. The camera has been a constant in Edwards practice, beginning in his teen years. Many evenings were spent over a tray of developer processing photos one darkroom or another since. The industry moving from film based photography to digital forced him to look for alternative ways to output/print the images. Edwards began using Silkscreen process to render his images. His adapted style of using a bold halftone dot pattern reviles the nature of the eyes response to the patterned color, rendering the image both full of depth and flat, concrete and abstract. New explorations are happening as well in the use of watercolor and photography in a way to blow up discrete marks and textures.
