Pawlow's works show psychological dimensions of human interaction. Undertones are not missing, now and then the grotesque or the capriccio interferes. Arsentij Pawlow develops his graphics impressively from the expressiveness of lithography, while the specific potential of the technology is convincingly used. The grain of the lines in the chalk lithography or the values of the black ink show a language of their own. Often there are visual breaks between realism and non-representational, arabesque-like line structures react to the figuration or a moving darkness envelops the scenery. The pictorial set pieces create a tension in terms of form and content that evokes the sound of the images. The semantics of the pictorial means are constantly being rediscovered and given a meaningful interpretive force that leaves room for interpretation for the observer to update.
