About The Artwork
The Kelly Girls were conceived and created in 1996 as a statement about the fact the Artwork created by women was not being shown (with very few exceptions) in the major galleries and museums in NYC. At the time I utilized sewing as a method to create my Art, and as such, found that the mass produced sewing patterns were beautiful abstractions in and of themselves. I also worked as an Art Installer helped to install Ellsworth Kelly's retrospective in 1996. It was then that I conceived of the Kelly Girls.
