Abstract Wood Sculpture - Bipod No.4 - Carved From Peruvian Walnut Sculpture

The fourth in the "Bipod" series there is a concave surface to add more depth to the asymmetrical balancing act. The relationship of the concave and convex forms is a feature of this sculpture. As it is freestanding, the structural balance is another factor in the design. The structure is strong as the bridge area is long grain. The Mutual parts have character in visual motion, tension and conceptual interaction. The themes include: symbiosis and the interaction of parts seemingly unaware of the greater whole. The pristine nature of the contours enable the elementary curves and masses to possess power in form. This power contrasts and compliments the subtle and tranquil characteristic of the sculpture. The sculpture is to hold as well as view. Feeling the form in your hands adds great depth to the experience. As I worked through the grits of sandpaper I would look and feel the curves until they were right. Due to this feature of the art, the sculpture affords many beautiful viewing angles and creates many interesting shadow effects depending on the chosen lighting. The owner of the piece may set it up as they please so as to match their unique interior space.
