VIEW IN MY ROOM
Walking the 'Edgelands' where I live I'm inspired to collect objects, photos and memories of the steps taken, observing the conflict between human needs and the beauty of landscape. Displaced has been cast from two objects found and finished with walnut crystal dye which Henry Moore used for his 'bone' like sculpture work, and watercolours used in traditional scenic painting, but repurposed here to allude to landscape. The sculpture forms are offset thinking about the way in which humans 'displace' the natural world around them, and are made using with what's found in the environment to link our past with the present.

My art practice is situated in a culture of walking engaging with the nature & substance of landscape drawing on and drawing with the environment in which I step. I'm particularly drawn to 'edgeland' spaces, ones that mediate the transition from urban to rural landscapes; their ephemeral & transient qualities. The work has concerns that touch upon the fleeting nature of the sublime, and how stepping out can be the salve that reconnects us to the wonder of the world.
