About The Artwork
This piece is inspired by the Scandinavian folktale of the same name, and is burned, freehanded, onto hand finished red cedar. The wood abuse for projects has been locally, and ethically sourced, and I like to leave as many natural features of each piece of wood visible in the final design. I tried, in this design, to incorporate the natural seams of color within the wood, and how it swirls around knots, and what used to be branches. This piece hangs flat, or can be leaned, against a wall and is already equipped with hanging equipment.
