"offering"
Made from ferrous cement, with marble dust, internal steel support.
The head of the female figure has been exchanged for a peace lily flower, hence the title Offering, there is a slightly contradictory nature to the work, while the figure offers peace the hands look tied behind the back and the figure looks as if in submission, as if the offering is not entirely given freely.
For me this work is about offering peace to oneself and submitting to what is as opposed to what is not in reality.

I work with ferrous cement, a blend of white Portland cement, marble dust, sand, colour pigment and other fibers, this mix is then applied directly to metal armature or cast from clay models. My work attempts to distil and freeze in time a moment of emotional expression captured in form. I work from the inside out, matching internal narratives with outward postures. Or from the outside in – observing people and reflecting their stories back. The ruggedness of this material often contrasts with its thematic content, strength, and fragility. The texture of the work is a key aesthetic, while also altering limbs - to enable figures to appear both realistic and surreal. I hope the viewer attaches to the familiar and be curious by elements that may not seem to fit. http://www.sallyannemorgansculpture.net
