About The Artwork

We always try to make our work provoke conversations. They are the start of a new relationship. The work shows the process of forming ink droplets in industrial printers. An elementary basis for the creation of print. Droplets are formed using piezoelectric crystals, then when they separate from the rest they are electrically charged so that they can be directed in the right place by a magnetic field. It is a complex process that requires great precision. These droplets can be seen with the naked eye through a tiny window in the print head. Illuminated by a stroboscopic light, they appear to levitate. Mastering such a technique seems to be at the limit of what is possible and yet it is used for such everyday things as printing the best-before date. Such small, everyday miracles are certainly worth commemorating in the form of a mosaic.
