I sculpted this playful piece of two figures first in water-based clay, as I do with most of my pieces. I feel that my work is more 'alive' this way. After I finish, I make a mold and later paint the wax into the mold. I continued working on the wax positive by applying more details as well. We pour the bronze in a lost wax process. After I divest the bronze from its ceramic mold, I worked the bronze and applied colored patinas. I like colored patinas - they give my pieces a 'happy ending'. I engraved in the women's skirt many positive sayings from my diary. Written in English and German. It is a 'conversation piece'. Since I put them both on polished, fife corner green Verde Guatemala (Serpentine) pedestals, they can turn to each other, they can stand back to each other, sidewards, or separate from each other. You can play with them ... depending on what mood you are in with your partner ... It is definitely an art piece to 'play with'.

My life and art operate as one with each being the inspiration for the other. The ultimate goal of my art is that it becomes a Gesamtkunstwerk - work of many disciplines. Having been educated in the Bauhaus Tradition with its extreme rules I discovered my own need to express the freedom of living and working in different cultures. This continues to be an ongoing adventure of discovery. I left what was East Germany at the time, worked in Europe and the US, and continued the adventure as an ongoing discovery of my life. My art is a journal of this journey, which combines my cultural background with themes of restriction and liberation. In this process, I explore new materials and techniques to express the experience of being free. This freedom is mirrored through my art by utilizing an unlimited combination of techniques and materials in the same way that our lives are a combination of different influences. In addition, I sometimes incorporate sound, movement, light, projections, and video within the work as an essential ingredient to complete my expression.
