A subset of the 'Abstract Placing (daily edition)' series, "Thyme Time" continues withthe concept of fitting together little pieces of stories that objects carry inside, but adds a little bit of a twist... Farrow & Ball is a British manufacturer (headquarters in Wimborne Minster, UK) of paints and wallpapers largely based upon historic colour palettes and archives. Its creative colour names really took and shook me, and after I found they just happen to sell little sample pots, I purchased some. The pieces in this series - 'Homophones' - were made following a particular set of rules: 1) Name the piece using a homophone (each of two or more words having the same pronunciation but different meanings, origins, or spelling). 2) Pick three Farrow & Ball colors that fall in step and rhythm with that homonym. 3) Un-reroute back to the original 'Abstract Placing (daily edition)' series theme - use objects found, discovered, or noticed that day to create a larger narrative. Using these rules, I am attempting to provoke a certain vein of thought - what makes a particular combination of word, color, & story elicit a certain feeling while another might bring about a completely different one, or none at all? Do the things around us in our lives have their own flow and part in the bigger picture, and all it takes to discover this is a little time, attention, and effort? Is it thyme? Or is it time? Cook it up green and it will tell all. - - - - - - - - - **NOTE** - Although some of the materials were found on the ground, they have been sterilized and sealed before being placed, so as to allay any concerns about dirt dripping on your floor... - - - - - - - - - ________________________________ FRAMED: No (picture may show piece framed for illustration purposes) SEALED: Yes SIGNED: Yes, initials on front and full signature on back HANGING HARDWARE ATTACHED ON BACK: Yes

ART, LIKE LIFE, HAPPENS BY ACCIDENT. A whiff of control; some semblance of steering. And belief of a firm grip. But we're grasping at the air beneath our feet. The truth is: we don't hold anything. It comes in bits and bobs, dashes and jots - brief glimpses, spaces, sliding out of sight. For truth, is to feel it slip away. And then to try to create it. - - - Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, & often both, my art reflects the intersection between logic and intuition, real and abstract, time and the timeless. - - - - - - - - - Steven Tannenbaum grew up in New Jersey, where he learned how to garden and defend himself. He now lives in Portland, Oregon, and his art is in public & private collections across the US, Israel, and England. You can find more of his work at: www.whatifind.com
