As an artist, I believe art has multiple interpretations, and providing a specific meaning to any piece only limits the viewer's frame of mind. I prefer that the viewer has the opportunity to interpret my pieces freely without external influence. I will, however, share common themes from my art which drive my excitement to create. My work is always based around a strong narrative with a cast of "˜characters,' each a part of a larger story, or a continuous narrative between the pieces and the viewer. I am often motivated to explore the portrayal of relationships in my pieces. These relationships play out between the cast of "˜characters,' and I often find that they mirror my own life and experiences. Growing up and traveling all over world has also played a significant role in my work, as each new trip and journey brought new stories to share, as well as unique visual elements to incorporate within each new piece created. My work has been presented in foreign embassies, a college newspaper, literary magazine and a few galleries. I was the winner of the 2004 Columbia Scholastic Press Association's 21st Gold Circle Award in the Sequential Art Category. A small sampling of my work can be found on my website www.carlyonder.com.
