About The Artwork

A swarm of honeybees drawn in detail with archival pen and ink, part of the Pollinator Studies I began at Willowtail Springs Artist Residency in Mancos Colorado. In my work I carve wax at 500 degrees, after many years of this I began to research the wax and create new recipes that would make my work more sustainable. This quickly led me to beeswax and the delicate, euphoric process of working with beeswax led me to studying honeybees. Fascinated by their lives, social structure and all they do in nature, I was asked to stay at Willowtail Springs Artist Residency to pursue my studies and work. While there, I visited trees filled with wild honeybees and became inspired to create and continue creating a body of work telling the story of these pollinators.
