Art Description

Drawing: Gesso, Pastel on Wood.

One of my favorite memories growing up was my grandfathers corn meal mush. He had a small kitchen in the basement of his house where he would fry it up and share with his little dog and who ever else might show up.

As I have gotten older I take more time to recall those special memories. Especially of those who have gone before us. I hope this piece brings back a special memory for you as well.

The work is soft pastel on 1/8" hardboard panel, with a sanded gesso ground. The base gives a nice tooth for the pastels. I purposely leave brush strokes as it adds an additional texture, which I find desirable. I do not use a fixative on the pastels, leaving them bright and colorful. The piece should be framed behind glass for protection.
