About The Artwork

I created this artwork by interpreting a poem titled: Diogenes. by Iraqi Poet:Lamiah Abbas Imara (b. 1927) I carry my lantern at noon And I search for her) Colors mix in my head until they are without color. All the galaxies of the universe are transfigured into points in infinity. I lost her In the commingled blood of two who were slain, Enemies, now dead, Who will judge between the two of them? But even within myself I ran from her And she begged me to return. How will I know her? Even skin color changes. If I wipe away her painted colors I may erase the original Who should I believe? She will be the first to deny me The first to betray me? Still, in silence I feel closer to her, I may touché the outlines of her body, And time is compressed in this moment of silence Like the richness of a dream the moment before death. O, dervish, crouching on the hilltop. Like a silent devil, you will be covered with snow. The angels of paradise Will not rejoice at the sound of music playing on a broken string. So, dervish, don’t think of dancing. Many have come along this path, Burdened with question marks. Do you feel wiser keeping silent? The stone is wiser than you. Go in silence, dervish, wear the skin of the bear To remain beloved to God. ... She said: I saw nothing So don’t ask anything of me. Go on, carry your lantern So you can delude yourself That you are searching for her.
