Title: "Migration 1" Medium: oil on canvases Size: 60 x 48 inches "Migration 1" is one of the 11 large abstracts I painted specifically for a solo exhibition in Midtown Manhattan that was in the lobby of the TIME Building. The whole series was inspired by a recent trip I took to South Africa for a safari. The whole experience was incredible but there was one that stood out most in my mind. We had been viewing a group of lions feasting on a cape buffalo they had recently killed when all of a sudden hundreds of buffalo came silently to confront the lions. It was a tense standoff. The lions backed down! Then the cape buffalos turned around a headed toward a watering hole. We got there first and experienced the whole thing. They kicked up so much dust, the air in the bright sun was white. And, they just kept coming! Migration 1 can hang with its companion painting, Migration 2 as a diptych, which is how they have been displayed. They were painted purposefully to be independent paintings, unlike some diptych halves, which lose their umph alone. I painted this painting with many layers of white. You can't tell in the photo, but it has a lot of paint on it! I kept the other colors to a minimum to emphasize the line and the movement. I am very proud of this painting and it looks fabulous on a grey or colored wall. It is currently being exhibited at another venue in Midtown, but if it is purchased, I can get it and replace it with another painting! Two huge shows in one year! Due to size, this canvas will be shipped rolled in a tube. Any framer can re-stretch them on gallery stretchers. If needed.

United States
I'm a Canadian-American abstract expressionist painter currently living in Nashville, Tennessee. I started my painting career as a portrait painter because I had an eye for detail but always wished I could "get more feeling" into my paintings. Only when I began to paint for me rather than to please other people did this begin to happen. Painting for me is like meditation where things come up unannounced and unexpected. I try to accept, trust and value whatever appears. Painting on big canvases is what I love so I can move with the paint, and I never paint without listening to music. I can’t imagine painting sitting down! I paint fast, to keep ahead of my thoughts. Sometimes when I'm finished, I have little idea how I got there. When I look at a painting and say to myself, “How did I do that?” then it's been a good day in the studio! Originally Canadian, I have lived in Europe and Asia as well as the US, so I have been blessed with a life of travel and it is one of my sources of inspiration. I don't paint until I return, but seem to absorb the colors, atmospheres and vibes of places that affect me on an emotional level. My other source if inspiration is more internal and stems from struggles to overcome a very difficult early family dynamic. My favorite advice came from my former advisor, the well-known and amazing artist, Larry Poons, "Trixie, try to say good-bye the way you say hello!" I knew exactly what he meant. Just go for it right to the end and don't start analyzing and "fixing". He would also bellow, "Don't think, just paint," and "Stop looking, just paint." Then of course there is Bob Ross's (more gentle) classic comment, "there are no mistakes, just happy accidents!"
