About The Artwork

I live in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, which includes 25% of the wetlands of the entire East Coast, both fresh and salt marshes. The light here is as magical and ethereal as it is in Venice because water is everywhere and it bounces off everything. During the golden hours before sunset, the Lowcountry light is enough to convince me of God. And it feels that good. The crepuscular rays are like spotlights, on individual islets, or a single bird. There are a few of them in this piece. You may not see the ray itself, but a circle of gold on an area of grass, in an otherwise shaded hammock of sable palms. That is part of what I seek to share about my world in my work -- that sometimes a single ray of light is all we need. A lush landscape with God's spotlights will always make the moment right. You'll keep going and feel a little better without even knowing why.

Painting was not my first life's work, but it has fed my family for the last 20 years, and I am proud of that. I came to it late, with a lifetime of travel and stories to paint. I worked hard at them, full time all the time and the reward was that people liked my stories -- still do! -- so I kept painting them. They've shown in museums and galleries, sold to cities and corporations, and to thousands of individuals all over the world who loved them and put them in their homes. I consider myself blessed.
