About The Artwork

I have been fortunate to work with a variety of early-stage technology startups to help them understand their data and design various dynamic graphs, charts, and data visualizations to help their customers better understand their own data. Many of these deliverables are unexpectedly pretty and graceful, and I started this series of data visualization-inspired paintings to reflect upon and capture some of the more interesting projects that I've worked on. This painting is three-dimensional, with paper mache'd pie slices sitting on a satin-black background. It's inspired by the "Nightingale Rose Chart" (aka Coxcomb chart or Polar Area diagram), which became popular after Florence Nightingale used it to visualize how many soldiers died in Hospitals during the Crimean War. This painting can be hung at any orientation (my name is signed on the outer righthand edge of the pictured orientation). I am happy to install hanging hardware for the preferred orientation, or provide hardware when the piece is shipped.

As an artist and an engineer, I'm interested in experimenting with different materials and techniques in order to explore subjects like nature, astronomy, and geology; the impact of color and different color combinations on mood; and generally how to promote tranquility and calmness in the observer. I'm especially focused on making artwork that serves as a focal point for important, meaningful spaces in folks' day-to-day life, and have created many custom paintings for offices, meditation corners, and creative areas. I primarily work by building up colored layers of fibrous paper, and then depositing watercolor and acrylics - resulting in extremely textured and colorful paintings (that can also be lit up from behind!). My work is playful, vibrant, and meditative.
