Impressionistic Artwork with a modern take on traditional floral painting. Flower arrangements today have a very modern structure - loose and more open than old fashioned bouquets. This arrangement has one poinsettia and many different additional flower varieties. The flowers seemed to each have their own "personality" and yet they work together to make a beautiful arrangement...hence the title "Poinsettia and Friends". The flowers are simplified and touches of dark throughout project the feeling of "stained glass" to the painting. The colors almost seem to glow as if lighted from within. The bright touches of red, orange and white show the flower arrangement touched by a warm light. The colors are primarily warm reds, pinks and oranges accented on a softly lighted pink and gray background. Title: Poinsettia and Friends Size: Unframed: 18" x 18" x 7/8" This painting is acrylic on canvas on a 100% birch wood panel. The panel has been stained with dark walnut to complement the painting. The panel is 7/8" deep and the painting is unframed.

I was once traveling with a close friend, photographing everything in sight, as any tourist does. I asked him, "Don't you want to take any photos?" He answered, "I like to remember things in my own way." What a profound statement - and one that I take seriously when I paint. My art is about remembering things . . . in my own way . . . and "disremembering" everything else. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, my artistic career began at an early age when I began painting with my mother on Sunday afternoons. Surrounded by art books, paintings and sculpture at home, I always knew I wanted to be a painter.
