Poolside #1 - 2016 Print

Poolside #1 - David Hockney’s iconic pool paintings were my starting point and source of inspiration for this series of portraits. My partner and muse posed for me in an upright position against a blank wall. In the painting I have placed her on the edge of a swimming pool, as though viewed from above, lightly submerged on one side. In a trance perhaps, obscured by gestures which may or may not evoke something of what she is feeling or experiencing. It was selected for a “Spotlight on Italy” collection on Saatchi Art's homepage in 2017 and has been featured on numerous major Instagram feeds. A surreal portrait made using - Acrylic and permanent marker ink on white foam board. This piece is set in an ultra-modern, bespoke, plexiglass box frame. Handmade in Italy, the plexiglass filters damaging UV rays, and allows light to spill in evenly from all sides. The foam board the work is painted on has bowed slightly under the weight of the acrylic. I personally really like this aesthetic. Signed, titled, dated and stamped on the reverse. However this is not visible due to the way the work is framed
