About The Artwork

A lot of what I want to convey in my art is about story telling. I believe stories and storytelling are fundamental to the human condition. I also believe that with the advent of electric light, a whole dimension of story telling has been lost. Throughout human history before electric lights, stories were told in the context of the changing light of day, and the flickering light of candles and fires. Shadows, shifting light and light from different angles that illuminated the story teller and the audience were integral parts to the stories, the performance and the meaning and emotions of the event. This painting captures aspects of the story teller's experience in the context of lights and shadows, and the all that happens in the spaces between them. I find watercolor to be an extraordinarily versatile and expressive medium that is also highly attuned to conveying shifting nuances of lights and shadows.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I work in wood, resin, pewter, watercolor, sumi ink and other materials to create art that tells stories based on the interplay of light and shadows on organic shapes and spaces as we move through time. I believe stories and narratives are a critical part of what defines humanity, and that throughout human history until the wide dissemination of electric light, stories (oral and visual) were told in the context of sunlight, firelight and candlelight, each of which creates an environment rich in shadows and movement for both the storyteller and the listener. I aim to capture elements of that narrative richness in my art.
