: In this series titled "Poli-sarcasms", paintings of a pictorial and romantic realism are synthesized with minimalist symbolic elements of the graffiti type, simple, fast, instantaneous. The purpose is to try to overturn or divert the concept of a painting previously made and to serve as an imaginary basis for overlapping ironic graffiti elements, with the sole intention of changing the anticipated pictorial message (this is generally a romantic style realism or impressionistic Landscapes, fruits, interiors, etc.), overlapping with his reading a theme of political consonances at symbolic level whose original message is synthesized to ridicule and at the same time distort and expand the concept of the work. This particular painting was realized in the year 2013 and represents a phenomenon weighed in the idiosyncrasy of the Venezuelans during long decades. It is about that doctrinaire ideology of keeping us safeguarding a heritage of historical relics, along with perverse political norms that try to impose an illusory and false state (from that "democratic" state of the fourth republic, to the current regime of Castro- Marxist) that mixes its ideologies with those historical relics; While on the other hand, the same State is in fact a corrupt state that uses the means at its disposal to "dissuade" us and execute its tricks of violating the wealth of Venezuelans. The only two graffiti elements that appear on this painting are the two black silhouettes, one located on the other side of the window, which faces the woman sitting in front (the Motherland) to keep her deceived and distracted while the other silhouette Is already inside the house or room (The State) to steal custody, the "Golden Apples" (reminiscent of one of the proofs of Hercules in Greek mythology) symbol of one of the most precious utopias of man, the Of material eternity.

William Marquina was born in Mérida, Venezuela. Attracted by the works of great masters such as Picasso and Leonardo, at the age of 11 he participated in an outdoor Sunday painting workshop. After graduating in visual arts from the Universidad de Los Andes, he studied a master's degree in philosophy, followed by an unfinished doctorate, and was a short-term visual arts professor at the same university. From now on, William will pursue his passion for art by experimenting with different themes, techniques, styles and media. Disappointed by the unstable situation in his country, he emigrated to the city of Quito in 2019 where he currently lives and produces his works in the Oskan-huera painting studio, cloistered during the pandemic of 2020 and 2021, he will insist on his series Perceptions William's production has been experimentally versatile and challenges us with series characterized by the desire to search, study and complement the archaic and contemporary. His series are notable: Brillo, Picasso Copy, Matisse Copy, Da Vinci Copy and Aperceptions. In the latter, he highlights us in painting, the subjective complexity in the world of perceptions. In 2023 he exhibited his individual retrospective "Imbrications in painting" in the city of Quito; the International Painting exhibition at Casal Català Quito, 2021 and "Exhibition of Ecuadorian Painting" at the Mayor's Office of Quito, 2019. Other important individuals were: "Cartographies of the Terrestrial and Transterranean", Merida 2012; "Care. Path and Limit", 2007 and "Essences", 2007. Awarded the First Prize of Arts for University Students, in 2001.
