ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Like with all the paintings of the artist, the line has a very important role is Matlakas work. He explains that the line follows the rhythm of breathing and it contains life itself. The direction of the line is very important as it intensely communicate a certain mood beyond the content of the painting. The artist explains that tracing a line is like a dance and that who watches it can dance with it too. One more observation about the line is that when two or more line crosses each other they create a void and the artist himself is very interested in the void as in the void itself there are hidden the secrets of life such as in the black matter of the space. This painting shows two rows of tanks a little bit like toys, a mass of them facing each other like in a war. In the centre the cannon of the tanks encounter and it’s in that centre that the artist wants our attention to pose. As that centre is the turning point where we can still make decisions. To go further or stop, the point where our consciousness tells us to act upon the bad or the good. It is time to change how society works and war itself it’s something that humankind should one day see as thing of the past. The crowd of tanks for the artist also represent the fact that one day he imagines a world where tanks will not be in use anymore and will be thrown as rubbish or used for other purposes. This painting on canvas is already stretched and ready to Hung, it is unframed, you can decide to hang it like that o get it framed by a professional framer, my advice to you if you are going to frame it to buy a soft tone, I would usually go with white.
