About The Artwork

A hand cut collage on pure white MDF board. Slivers of Ash, cherry, birch, walnut and bird's eye maple wood specimens are cut into geometric forms and pinned with round map pins painted gold. The woods all have texture and grain and are luminous in bright light. The birch looks like silver and the Ash is a yellow white gold. Real and colored pencil shadows give it a 3D effect. It has a mid-century vibe. The sides are clean white and it needs no frame. Thank you for looking.

Karen Clark is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles. She uses oil, acrylic and collage in her quest to find magic in the ordinary. Her art has been commissioned by Louis Vuitton, the Bellagio Hotel, the Mandarin Oriental, the Virgin Hotel, Los Vegas, and an HBO series. She has sold to private collections in Sweden, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, the US and more. Her art has been featured on on Artsy, the Huffington Post, CNN, and CBS. From Art Critic Shana Nys Dambrot, "Karen Clark avails herself of an eclectic set of mediums and materials, including but not limited to painting, drawing, digital collage, and printmaking. These she deploys in all possible combinations in the service of pictorially hybrid compositions in which she freely samples stylistic languages from gestural abstraction to the surreal, naturalistic, ultra-modern, and romantic -- inventively choreographing this gamut of choices into layered juxtapositions that are at once eerie and poetic, strange and familiar.
