About The Artwork

The story; "How are you going to save me?" becomes a poignant reflection of the profound connection between a child navigating the uncharted waters of an undiagnosed disability, neglect, and trauma and their steadfast companion—a beloved dog. The inception of the Dog series finds its roots in the artist's subconscious, a realm where emotions manifest unexpectedly. Driven by an inexplicable compulsion to paint dogs, tears became the silent expression of sentiments too deep to decipher. This artistic journey became a therapeutic odyssey, a visual unravelling of the complex emotions tucked away within them. As the series unfolded, a tragic encounter on the way to a Mental Health conference acted as a catalyst. Witnessing an animal meeting a fatal end in a collision with a car, the artist's memories were thrust into the limelight. A childhood wound, dormant for years, resurfaced—the heart-wrenching loss of a cherished dog at the tender age of 10. The trauma of that experience had been so profound that it had driven the young child to contemplate the end of their own life, a heartbreaking revelation that had remained buried until this moment of reckoning. The question, "How are you going to save me?" encapsulates the silent plea of the child within, reaching out for solace and understanding. In the intricate dance between art and memory, the Dog series transforms into a healing narrative, unveiling the layers of a past marked by loss and despair. The bond with the beloved dog emerges as a source of solace and resilience, a silent companion that weathered the storms of a tumultuous childhood. In the artist's courageous exploration of the past, the series becomes a testament to the power of art as a therapeutic medium, offering a pathway to unearth and comprehend the profound impact of childhood trauma. Through brushstrokes and tears, the artist navigates the terrain of memory, inviting healing and understanding into the depths of their narrative.

Most of these artworks were created several years ago, creatively processing the early days of learning later in life; I was Autistic (among other brain differences), and the challenges I faced when I made adjustments in my relationships based on my neurobiological differences and diverse needs. The digital artworks were created for a podcast my friend and I had together, where we unpacked our experiences as neurodivergent humans. My approach involves asking probing questions specifically created to uncover complex traumas. I developed a method of self-inquiry and introspection designed to bring awareness to one's inner world. By delving into my subconscious and exploring the reasons behind my choices, beliefs, and emotional responses, I essentially acknowledge and understand myself at a deeper level. This self-awareness is crucial in personal growth, healing, and making positive changes. I work with paint, pencil, ink, spray paint, recycled substrate, fabric, clay, and vintage materials to assist the self-understanding, acknowledging and positive change process. My work involves asking, waiting, watching, quiet listening, inner knowing, storytelling, memories and subconscious answers.
