About The Artwork

Twenty-five portraits, each in a separate square. The structure of the grid is regular; its fields are equal. Everyone has the same amount of space. Being in the net gives you the feeling of being in the right place. The sides of the square, like walls, provide a safe space and at the same time give separation from other people. You can also feel lonely. However, they are like happy, smiling people looking from their squares; they want to appear like this. Newspapers and magazines have published their laughter, promoting success and happiness - the dominant topic of media coverage. In this picture, the beautiful, deformed faces turn into a "character portrait." Youth, joy, and enthusiasm are still visible. However, the deformity is disturbing, signaling that behind the laughter, there maybe it's the opposite.

I am an artist from Poland. Living in Sweden. I am working with oil, acrylic, and mixed techniques on paper, drawing, and graphics. Oil on canvas dominates my work. Figurative compositions and landscape motives are two themes of the same importance to me. In both, I want to convey the feeling of space. Space is a symbol of everything which is beyond the reality of our senses. I would like that my paintings are full of meaning. I want my paintings to be ambiguous so that they do not convey something directly, that they intrigue the viewer and invite them to think and interpret individually my pictures. For some years I am the owner of my own graphics press, which is located in a graphic studio in my home in Sweden, where I live now. Summer is a period of hard work for me - works on paper are being created. I paint paintings in Warsaw. I have been living in this rhythm of artistic work for several years. Time goes by and my art is changing. The question of where it will lead me is always up to date. You are welcome to visit my website: https://jolantajohnsson.eu/ https://malexanderartgallery.com/
