I made this starting out with 1970’s Bouguereau print my mother always had above our kitchen table, my whole life, and when I left home, I took it with me and always had it above my kitchen table, my whole life. The girl in the painting is sad. In the original painting you can see that she broke the pot that she wanted to fill with water next to the well. I didn’t want her to be sad anymore. I didn’t want her pot to be broken anymore. I created this when my brother died too young of alcoholism at the age of 41, the age I am now. He fell down a staircase. I suspect it was his wife, also an alcoholic who made it happen. Perhaps a murder unresolved. We may never know the truth. My brother’s name was Rodney Jr. This here is the girl sad and broken no longer. I call her Rodnella, a funny name my father’s sisters used to call my dad when he was a kid, Rodney Sr. We are all a part of her. My family looking at her casually for all those years. May we not be broken or sad any longer. May we find the will to break free.

Shela Muya is an artist, singer, music composer, writer, healer, lover of sacred service and creation. Currently working on what she calls her first ‘masterwork project’ consisting of 22 mixed media collage paintings that correlate with 22 songs she’s written in Light Language (the language of the stars) and each piece of art will then be converted into an oracle card with a reference guide booklet encompassing sacred messages from the Divine. Shela has an extensive background in music. She received high recognition for her talent in opera performance at Indiana University’s Jacob School of Music on scholarship and at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts opera conservatory in Philadelphia. Her award-winning talent led her to travel to many countries, participating in international competitions as a young up-and-coming star of opera including Placido Domingo’s famous competition at the Palais Garnier Opera House in Paris. Shela’s love for children lead her to work as a celebrity nanny in NYC for many years working with unique clientele, including a special connection with autistic children. Now having two enchanting daughters of her own, “nothing is more perfect, magical and inspiring than the love between a mother and child.” Master of Reiki Healing Arts from New York International Reiki Center, Shela has always been deeply fascinated with all things metaphysical. Her life has brought her over a decade of experience working with mothers and children, extensive studies in oracle divination, esoteric spirituality, holistic health and plant medicine. Choosing a life of anti-alcoholism, anti-Pharma, meditation, believer in psychedelic therapy and sacred ceremony, healing the self through healing others and vice versa has been a magically dynamic part of her world.
