About The Artwork
Rahina is a Kayayo. Female Head Porter. She came to Accra from the Northern region almost 5 years ago, as there was no work from her in the North. For long hours in the sweltering heat of Accra she carries goods on her head for few cedis a day. Some loads weight more than 120 pounds and she needs to do a lot of trips to survive. Despite the back breaking labour she continues working in Accra to send money to her family back in the North. Photography and description by Natalia Gormalova.
