A word on perspectivism: There lies a philosophical theory buried in time that must not be forgotten. Each and every one of us has experienced values, cultures and memories that are unique to ourselves. These events form a web that works as a filter, or perspective, towards all that we see and feel. In this way, we are equally horrified to see a muslim clad in a burqa as they are to see us in our shorts and t-shirts or sunbathing in bikinis. Neither of these sentiments is "wrong" or "right", they are but different perspectives. In this sense, we all have our own truths, that are just as real as the truths of others, and, most importantly, are neither superior nor inferior to the rest. A universal truth could only be made feasible by a mind far greater than ours; that of a supercomputer or quantic computer that were self aware (though universal truth will be peanuts in comparison with what such a device will bring). This seemingly infinite mind would have to compile all of the perspectives in existence, both in a real and figurative sense, to create an understanding as great as the whole of humanity. Or perhaps more so, for we are not the only creatures with perspective. Who are we to judge the actions of others? Who are we to set off on missions of salvation to save the nations who aren´t in sync with western culture? How would we react if the tables were turned and peoples from other continents came to bomb us because we weren´t living in accordance with their beliefs? Oh, wait, that happens. Not a day goes by where this isn´t mentioned on the news and europeans react with horror and bewilderment to this form of instilling values - yet we do just the same to other countries. Our perspectives do not make us right. They are but as true as opinions. Getting back to the painting: monks walk into a forest that is tainted by the colour of their habits; their beliefs. Their world is a different colour, a different harmony to ours. A paralel could be drawn between the infinite frequencies of light, both visible and invisible, that compose the spectrum, and the various perspectives, truths and opinions that compose the world we live in. Would it not be insane for blue to criticise orange for being too warm? Would it not be truly ridiculous for orange to kill blue for being too cold? For blue is as fundamental as orange, there would be no colour without variety in hue, there would be no grace in life without variety in perspective. But we are creating an apartheid of thought. All thoughts are valid even if - especially if - they do not align with yours. We enrich existance with our variety and extremities, we must stop fighting over religion, culture and politics. Not to mention economics, but that is a whole other painting.
